Nan Goldin (b. 1953) is unquestionably one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century.
A successor to Diane Arbus, her aesthetic, creative approach and contribution to colour photography has had a tremendous impact on both the medium and the art world. Nan Goldin's body of work is consistently personal - she documents the romance, tragedy, triumphs and adventures of her friends and lovers.
This intimate and gritty portrait, like many of Goldin's best images, conveys the energy, characters and creativity of NYC in the 1980s and 1990s.
The work of Nan Goldin is exhibited all over the world. The Dutch photo museum had a retrospective of her work in 2010, showing work from 1978 to 2001. In2007 she received the Hasselblad Award.
