Superb Buddha in the Bhumisparsha mudra.
Bronze, Myanmar, Burma, 20th century
Height: 35 cm
Weight: 4.537 kg
The bronze and the craftsmanship are of a beautiful quality.
The Buddha Bhumisparsha is always shown in a seated position, with his right hand on his knee and his fingers pointing towards the earth. His left hand also rests on his knee with the palm facing upwards. The word "Bhumisparsha" means "to touch the earth" or "to call upon the earth to bear witness". This mudra represents the moment when Buddha became enlightened beneath the Bodhi tree.
